The Christmas Concert certainly put us in the festive mood, with a variety of excellent performances from our Music students.
The concert got off to a lively, toe-tapping start with a performance by our newly formed Ceilidh Band. This was followed by a polished performance of Vivaldi’s ‘Winter’ by the String Ensemble.
There was a good mix in both the ages of the performers and the musical styles that were presented, capturing well the variety of music-making that is happening at St Wilfrid’s.
Zoe (Y11), gave an emotional performance of ‘Dreams’, which she had recently composed. ‘Carol of the Bells’ was performed on the violin with great virtuosity by Estere (Y12). The Year 8 Vocal Ensemble gave a moving and heart-warming performance of ‘Believe’ from ‘The Polar Express’. The Year 9 vocal ensemble gave a stirring and confident performance of ‘Where Are You Christmas?’ It was evident that Dean Martin’s spirit lived on in Adam’s vocal performance of ‘Let it Snow’! Not only did Miles (Y9) perform in numerous items, he also co-ordinated and controlled all of the lighting for the concert.
The evening was confidently compèred by Lula and Caitlin (both Y10). Working enthusiastically behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly were Grace and Charlotte (also Y10).
The evening climaxed with the Academy Orchestra combining with the HI Department to perform Irving Berlin’s classic festive song ‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas’. It was wonderful having the HI group there to teach us some sign language and add to the performance of our talented musicians.
