Year 7 Parents’ Information and iPad Evening

September 24, 2018 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Year 7 Parents' Information and iPad Evening

The Year 7 Information Evening will be held in the Academy’s Main Hall on Monday 25th September at 6pm. During this evening you will be provided with an opportunity to discuss your child’s first weeks at St. Wilfrid’s, whilst also allowing us to introduce a number of exciting initiatives available to you and your child in the coming weeks and months.

One such initiative we will give you some more information about is our Academy iPad scheme. Over recent years the we have undertaken a significant amount of research into the use of mobile devices in education and this has resulted in the deployment of iPads to all students. The evening allows us to showcase how iPads have been used to improve learning across the Academy and help educate our students to be responsible digital citizens. We will also discuss the support we will need from you regarding the scheme and explain how you can help keep your child safe online.

We will also introduce you to Firefly in more detail, a website and app used in the Academy to digitally record student homework, so that you, as parents, can view the tasks being set by your child’s teachers and when they are due. The evening will allow us to explain how to activate your parent account ahead of Firefly’s official launch with Year 7 in November.

Another event to be discussed on the evening is our annual Lockerbie Manor Residential. This 3 day, 2 night residential will be run the week beginning Monday 13th November and is open to all Year 7 students. The residential provides a fantastic opportunity for students to meet new friends, learn new skills and build confidence whilst participating in some exhilarating outdoor activities.

The evening will allow us to provide further details about the launch of our fantastic Wilfridian Award for 2017/18 as well as presenting other useful information that will further support your child with the transition into life at St. Wilfrid’s.

If you are unable to attend, please contact Mr Ashman (Lead teacher for New technologies) or Mr Fagan (Assistant Principal KS3) so that alternative arrangements can be made to discuss these initiatives.
