Harry Potter Book Night 2019

The LRC was transformed into Hogwarts as the Academy hosted another Harry Potter Book Night.

Selected Year 7 and 8 students were invited to attend, along with Student Librarians, for making progress with reading, being avid readers or for promoting reading throughout the Academy.

Students had the opportunity to take part in a photo shoot and were then sorted into their houses: Gryffindor; Hufflepuff; Ravenclaw; and Slytherin! Within their houses, they took part in a writing activity where they were turned into JK Rowling and re-wrote some classic scenes from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. These included seeing the Hogwarts Express for the first time on Platform ¾, the sorting hat ceremony, a potions lesson with Severus Snape, and Harry, Ron and Hermione finding the troll in the dungeon. A drama activity followed the ‘great feast’ and students acted out certain scenes including a potions lesson, the broomstick flying lesson, gaining access to platform 9 ¾ and a charms lesson.  The event ended with the greatly anticipated and competitive Harry Potter Quiz, as we tested the students’ knowledge of Harry Potter!

All students received a certificate for attending as well as a copy of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’. Thanks to all who attended and made the night such a success. Congratulations also goes to Corey, who won the best costume go the night with his brilliant take on Severus Snape!
