St Wilfrid’s C of E Academy is delighted to announce their best ever Sixth Form results achieved by students this summer, particularly given the national picture. With a 100% pass rate across all qualifications and a significant increase in A*-A grades, and indeed better than national pass rates across all key measures, we have enjoyed celebrating the success of Year 13.
Students with standout performances include Kate Angland, Aliyah Chaudry and Tahseen Umer, who all received A* grades across each of their subjects. Aliyah also took on the Extended Project Qualification and L3 Mathematical Studies course, gaining A grades in both. She said “You’ve just got to believe in yourself. I’m so thankful for the support from my teachers – I couldn’t have done it without them!”. Aliyah is very excited to be heading off to the University of Manchester to study Law.
With almost 20% of our students gaining a full set of A*/A results, there is an inevitable list of exciting destinations for the top achieving Sixth Formers. Hannah Khan will be making her way to Oxford University to study Biochemistry. She said “I’m excited to be going to Oxford and really want to make the most of the opportunity. My results are even better than I expected - I’m glad my hard work hasn’t gone down the drain!”. Mohammed-Zayn Ganchi will be pursuing Medicine at Manchester, Andrew Smith will be studying Natural Sciences at Durham, while Corey Dockerill will be heading to York to study Maths.
St Wilfrid’s also has a strong history of successful applications for Degree Level Apprenticeships with many students heading into the private sector over the last few years with established companies such as KPMG and Rolls Royce. This year, we are pleased to see Anisa Haji securing an apprenticeship in the public sector with Lancashire Constabulary.
Academy Principal Miss Huddleston said: “We are thrilled with the attainment of our students, who have shown focus, determination and resilience as they have worked with their teachers throughout their journey at St Wilfrid’s. As I step into early retirement, I cannot thank both the staff and students enough for their fantastic efforts which have been justly rewarded with these excellent results. We would also like to acknowledge the support of parents and carers throughout the students’ time with us at the Academy. As students move into further education or their chosen careers, we look forward to seeing what they will achieve and would like to wish them every success for the future.”
