Glowing Report for St Wilfrid’s
Students, staff and governors at St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy were thrilled this week to receive official confirmation from Ofsted that the Academy continues to be a Good school.
The inspection team visited the Academy on the 10th and 11th January 2023 to conduct their review, which included meeting with senior staff, governors and students. This was one of the new ungraded visits for good schools. The report highlights the positive direction the Academy continues to move in, with notable mentions of the strong curriculum provision and nurturing environment the Academy has cultivated for all of their learners.
“Senior leaders have designed a suitably ambitious curriculum,” which teachers “deliver with confidence”.
“During lessons there is a calm and studious atmosphere.” Students “feel happy and safe here” and “build on what they already know securely… successfully deepening their understanding over time.”

The letter to the Academy goes on to state that “students are respectful of people’s differences. Everyone feels that they fit in, and they make friends easily... Students feel they are listened to by staff... Those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) enjoy success at this school. They achieve well.”
The Academy has always provided leadership opportunities for students, from which they “benefit greatly”, with Sixth Formers “keen to organise and lead activities for younger people.” As they look to their next steps in life, it was recognised that “students receive high-quality, independent careers advice and guidance.” Sixth Form students “were full of praise about how well prepared they feel to apply for university courses and apprenticeships.”
Principal Vicki Michael said: “We are delighted with our excellent Ofsted report, which is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the staff and young people. I am especially proud that Inspectors could see how the combination of academic rigour and the strong Christian ethos of the Academy is enabling all of our students to flourish."
