Why Choose St Wilfrid's?
1. ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Our outstanding results stem from an approach to learning that provides exceptional support for each of our students. We will nurture your aspirations, stretching, challenging and equipping you to succeed.
OUTSTANDING RESULTS
In 2022 37% of our students achieved A-A* and 67% of our students achieved A*-B grades, both of which are above the national average. This success derives from our focus on developing independent study skills as well as building a strong work ethic in our students to increase their desire to learn.

INDEPENDENT STUDY
Outside of their lessons, Sixth Form students continue with their learning journey through independent study. Independence is crucial for examination success and we have a structured Year 12 Induction Programme which will help them build the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the Sixth Form journey. They also have access to dedicated Independent Study page where they can access information and resources from home and while in Sixth Form.

CHALLENGE & ASPIRATION
St Wilfrid’s staff have high expectations of all students and encourage them to seek out academic challenge above and beyond the curriculum. We expect students to be organised, punctual and enthusiastic to learn. With access to a range of academic tools such as a reference library, academic periodicals and lectures, students are well-equipped to chase their aspirations and succeed.
2. PERSONALISED SUPPORT
Smaller class sizes ensure that teachers can develop strong working relationships with students, who are given the encouragement and freedom to develop their academic skills and take ownership of their learning. Teachers provide high quality study support both inside and outside of the classroom to make sure that each learner achieves their potential.
STUDENT WELLBEING
The wellbeing of our students is very important to us and our dedicated Student Welfare Officer will help and support your son/daughter with their mental health and wellbeing needs. All students have access to wellbeing support throughout their time in Sixth Form.
For those pursuing the very best universities, apprenticeships, or looking for a career in medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine, we have an exclusive range of clubs that will help you prepare in the best possible way.

3. GIVE BACK
Every Sixth Form student will get a number of opportunities to ‘give back’ to younger students at the Academy through a vast array of mentoring, ambassador and coaching programmes.

MENTORING (Literacy / Maths)
Some students really thrive in a one-to-one setting and with your help, we can offer this level of support to more of our young learners. We have popular Literacy and Numeracy mentoring programmes for KS3 and really value the input our Sixth Formers can bring.

AMBASSADORS (Specialist in a subject?)
We love to utilise your passion and knowledge of a particular subject to help inspire the learning of younger students. This can be done through classroom support in KS3/4 lessons and by representing the subject at Open Evenings.

COACHING (PE/Sports Clubs)
Sport at St Wilfrid’s is an extremely popular and competitive extra-curricular activity for all year groups. Because of this, there are many opportunities to develop your coaching skills and ways to be a role model for sportsmanship, something that every young athlete needs.
