This term in STEM club, students have been looking into the design of landing spacecraft!

Spacecraft must be designed to keep the occupants cool and land them safely. Inspiration for the task was from Tim Peake arriving back to Earth, as could be seen at the National Railway Museum.

In the first week, they investigated how much heat passes through different materials. The following week, they then applied these results to a model of insulation that had a chocolate core. Chocolate was used because it melts at body temperature, which is the limit for a spacecraft.
