The October Swimming Gala was yet another event to remember at Darwen Leisure Centre.
Not only did Oxford come out triumphant, they also brought an end to Ripon’s domination of the event over the previous few years. Overwhelmed with her first ‘big victory’ as head of house, Miss Hornby proclaimed it a “special night” for her personally, after “so many close calls” with recent Sports Day and Pantomime results. She also thanked “such a willing group of students who dedicated their time and effort to tonight and all across the year as well”.
Oxford house captain Matilda Brown considered the occasion “a bitter sweet time”. She added:
“I’m over the moon that we were able to claim first place, but I’m gutted this is my last house swimming gala. I’ve made some fantastic memories here throughout my time at St Wilfrid’s”.
Congratulations to all members of Oxford involved in a great achievement, as well as Truro, Ripon, Lincoln and Exeter placing 2nd – 5th respectively. Meanwhile, Mr Reeve was also taking charge of his first ‘main event’ as head of the house system, declaring it as “great for my former house Oxford to bring it home. All of the staff and students always play a great part in events like this. A very special mention to all of our Sixth Form house captains as well – it is brilliant of them to give up their time to make this happen for the lower school”.
A HUGE thank you and well done to all involved! Especially well done to Miss Hornby and Oxford, until next year…
