Induction Evenings

19th + 20th June 2017

Students and Parents are welcomed to the Academy and make first contact with Form Tutors.

SEN/Single Sampler Days

22nd / 29th June 2017

These ‘Sampler’ days are specifically for students with SEN (22nd), or who are the only ones coming from their Primary School (29th).

Sampler Days (x3)

5-7th July 2017

Students experience what life at the Academy is like, meeting other students and ‘sampling’ a few lessons.

We aim to make the transition process from Primary School as smooth as possible for all of our current and future students and have devised a strategy that encompasses their journey before, during and after the transition. This is a crucial time in a young person’s life and we strive to give a ‘wrap-around care’ approach to enable this phase to be seamless, with high-challenge and low anxiety.

Prior to joining the Academy, we visit each student at their Primary school, getting to know them and talking with their current class teacher. We seek to learn about their academic, social and emotional needs, as well as their plethora of talents.

We then enter the summer season with 3 important events:

Induction Evenings

19th and 20th June 2017

At this event, parents and students are welcomed to the Academy and are able to make the first contact with their Form Tutors.

SEN / Single Sampler Days

22nd / 29th June 2017

These days are for students with SEN (22nd), or those who are the only ones coming to St Wilfrid’s from their particular school (29th).

Sampler Days (x3)

5-7th July 2017

Students get the opportunity to learn about life at the Academy, meet other students and teachers, and ‘sample’ a few lessons. This helps them to become more familiar with their future surroundings.

When September comes around and the academic year begins, the first two days are spent doing activities that help them become familiar with the environment and get to know each other and their Form Tutor.

Shortly into the first term, each student is invited to attend a 3-day residential at an outdoor centre. This is an excellent opportunity for students to form friendships, develop self-confidence and experience working as a team.

Our Year 7 Student Support Team work closely with Form Tutors throughout the year, to provide a network of support for both students and parents. For any further information, please contact the Key Stage 3 POD.
