Transition

Induction Evenings

17th + 18th June 2019

Parents and Students are welcomed to the Academy for the first time, introduced to key staff and provided with essential information about the forthcoming transition days and their first week in September.

Single Sampler Session

26th June 2019

This day is specifically for students who are the only ones coming from their Primary School.

Sampler Days (x3)

3rd-5th July 2019

Students experience what life at the Academy is like, meeting other students and ‘sampling’ a few lessons.

We aim to make the transition process from Primary School as smooth as possible for all of our current and future students and have devised a strategy that encompasses their journey before, during and after the transition. This is a crucial time in a young person’s life and we strive to give a ‘wrap-around care’ approach to enable this phase to be seamless, with high-challenge and low anxiety.

Prior to joining the Academy, we visit each student at their Primary school, getting to know them and talking with their current class teacher. We seek to learn about their academic, social and emotional needs, as well as their plethora of talents.

We then enter the summer season with 3 important events:

Induction Evenings

17th and 18th June 2019

At this event, parents and students are welcomed to the Academy for the first time, introduced to key staff and provided with essential information about the forthcoming transition days and their first week in September.

Single Sampler Session

26th June 2019

This morning is for students who are the only ones coming to St Wilfrid’s from their particular school.

Sampler Days (x3)

3rd-5th July 2019

Students get the opportunity to learn about life at the Academy, meet other students and teachers, and ‘sample’ a few lessons. This helps them to become more familiar with their future surroundings.

When September comes around and the academic year begins, the first two days are spent doing activities that help them become familiar with the environment and get to know each other and their Form Tutor.

Shortly into the first term, each student is invited to attend a 3-day residential at an outdoor centre. This is an excellent opportunity for students to form friendships, develop self-confidence and experience working as a team.

Our Year 7 Student Support Team work closely with Form Tutors throughout the year, to provide a network of support for both students and parents. For any further information, please contact the Key Stage 3 POD.
