Experiencing to the Full

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

What does life to the full mean to you?

“How are you doing?” Such a common greeting and one that often generates the generic answer, “I’m fine, how are you?” Others may go a little bit deeper and say, “Tired!”, or “So-so” or something a little quirkier. Last weekend I was on the car park for an Accrington Stanley game and asked a gentleman who was parking his car that question. His response was, “Absolutely average!” In fact, every time I’ve asked him, he’s always been happy to hold the middle ground.

When I watched the video, ‘We are Wilfrid’s’, I cried. I’m still trying to work out why. I think a lot of it was, after a day of deep reflection on behaviour, I was punched by the fact that we mean what we say – ‘Live life to the full.’ To see the number of students engaging and enjoying life made me so proud to be part of such a community.

So, how are you doing? In Psalm 40, we read that David was in a mess. His response was to call out to God for help.

I waited patiently for the Lord;
   he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
   out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
   and gave me a firm place to stand.

Whether you feel like you are standing on a rock today or are in need of rescue from a slimy pit, let me encourage you that God has placed you in a community that cares – ‘We are Wilfrid’s’. Be encouraged also that the voice of the shepherd is always calling you out from the slimy pit, to live ‘Life to the full’.

During COVID, the Worship theme was Mental Strength. During this time, students completed a questionnaire to help identify and celebrate areas of their strength and to help pinpoint some actions for improvement. If you would like to examine your Mental Strength, click the following link. Your answers will be treated confidentially, and you will receive an email of your responses for self-reflection.

What is your response?
As you read the devotional, set some time aside to ask God how the word can change you today.
James 1:22 says "Do not merely listen to the word...do what it says." How can you live out the challenges set, or share the encouragement from the post today?
