Journey of Faith - Joseph

God wants us to follow his instructions

Have you ever asked the question, where do thoughts come from? When a random thought pops into my head, it fascinates me. I can choose my thoughts consciously, but I have little control over the random thoughts that come my way. The Bible, in Romans 12:2, challenges us to renew our mind and focus our thinking on God’s good, pleasing and perfect will. To do this we must identify those thoughts that are not of God. We are also encouraged to offer our lives as a sacrifice to God. This reminds me of the sacrifice that God asked of Abraham, his son Isaac. Isaac was faithful because he was prepared to offer everything he had when called by God.

Joseph was faithful. We read in Matthew 1:24 that, “When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him.” As you read the verse in context, you will realise that what he was asked to do was to take Mary to be his wife, even though she was with child. That required a step of faith!

My thought this week is this - does God direct our thoughts and give us dreams and visions for our lives? I am reading a book by Bob Goff at the moment called ‘Dream Big’. Do you dream? Are your dreams big?

If you want to have a God dream, a vision for your future and direction for your life, a great place to start is to ask. In James 1:6 we read that, “Anyone who lacks wisdom should ask God, who gives generously to all, without finding fault.” What an amazing promise. If it is wisdom, hope or a vision you seek, just ask, and believe. God bless you as you face your trials and opportunities today.

What is your response?
As you read the devotional, set some time aside to ask God how the word can change you today.
James 1:22 says "Do not merely listen to the word...do what it says." How can you live out the challenges set, or share the encouragement from the post today?
