The Academy marked a significant milestone in its commitment to providing cutting-edge educational experiences with the grand opening of our new state-of-the-art Design Technology facilities. The launch event was an inspiring celebration of both innovation and tradition, as students, staff, former colleagues, governors and special guests gathered to explore the recent transformation.
The £500,000 investment has seen the complete redevelopment of the Design Technology workshop and two classrooms for teaching Food Preparation and Nutrition. The new facilities are loaded with the latest technology and are designed to foster the joy of designing, experimenting, and making. The Academy is excited to see how these resources will empower students and give them the tools they need to thrive in today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving industries.
“We are incredibly proud to open these new facilities, which represent more than just bricks and mortar. This is a long-term investment in the future of our students and gives them an environment which not only meets the demands of the curriculum, but provides them with the potential to excel.” said Mrs Michael, Principal of St Wilfrid’s C of E Academy.
The refurbishment was warmly celebrated by the local community and as part of the opening event, a buffet lunch was prepared by students, showcasing the exceptional talent and creativity currently nurtured within the Academy. Guests got to explore the new facilities and see some of the new equipment naction.
Among the attendees were Mayor of Blackburn Councillor Brian Taylor and Michelin star chef Tom Parker – a former student of the Academy and current chef at The White Swan in Fence - whose presence added an extra layer of excitement to the occasion. The event was also a heartfelt reunion for former Design Technology staff, many of whom were delighted to return to St Wilfrid’s and see the progress the school has made over the years.
St Wilfrid’s C of E Academy looks forward to the continued success and development of its students in these newly-upgraded spaces and is committed to fostering a culture of excellence in all areas of education.
